Antes de mais queria agradecer-lhe por ter criado esta pagina. Achei este site muito bem feito e informativo. Sou estudante na City University of New York, e estou a fazer um trabalho para o departamento de Africana Studies e para um documentario sobre cerimonias de nomeacao em Africa. Estou a procura de +- 30 nomes, 15 de homem 15 de mulher, em Umbundu e seu significado. Tenho feito imensas pesquisas e telefonemas para Angola, Ministerio da Cultura, Patrimonio, etc.. e nao consegui nada por enquanto. Preciso desta informacao com o maximo de urgencia. Muito obrigada.

Kapingala....means sucessor or substitute for men

Huassuca....means lacking something or missing something for men

Chimati........rib for both males and females

Chongolola....someone who gathers name for men

Chitula..........means someone who helps in offloading a cargo

Bueti.............stick name for men

Kalandula.......Someone who follows, name for men

Chofeka..........for the country for men or ladies

Feka................country or nation for men

please if you need some contributions from me in terms of material regarding the ovimbundu please let me know.

The only problem on this website is that interesting information is not possible to print. One can print, but it does not come out complete. Words are cut. Please would you kindly improve this. Another problem is that it is hard to contact you because no contacts are included like telephone numbers and your whereabouts, by so it makes it to be like a clandestine website. The iniciative is good but the above should be disclosed too. I hope to have contributed some information so far.

Sou brasileira, e tenho me dedicado ao estudo da lingua kimbundu, tendo lançado recentemente uma HP e um forum de discussão. Ultimamente passei a me interessar também por outras linguas do grupo bantu, bem como por estudar algo sobre a história e tradição dos varios grupos etnolinguisticos de Angola. Tenho na medida dopossível, tentado abordar também outras linguas no forum. Achei as informações muito úteis e interessantes. Gostaria de ler mais alguma coisa sobre o Umbundu. Estive no forum lendo os assuntos, mas é uma pena que pouco tenha conseguido entender do que está escrito nesta lingua. Aos que puderem nos ajudar agradeceria. Abraços.Fátima
